8 Quirky Habits I Ditched on My Minimalist Journey

So, it’s been about several years now since I jumped on the minimalist train, and let me tell you, looking back at my old habits is like watching a cringe-worthy movie.

Seriously, the things I used to do seem so bizarre now that I’ve embraced minimalism.

But hey, we all start somewhere, right?

Here are eight of the weirdest things I used to do before minimalism took over my life.

8 Quirky Habits I Ditched on My Minimalist Journey

1. Wasteful Grocery Shopping Adventures

Picture this: me, strolling into the grocery store like a lost puppy, grabbing whatever caught my eye, and ending up with enough food to feed a small village for a month.

Sound familiar?

Yeah, that was my life.

But now?

Oh, now I’m a grocery-shopping ninja.

I plan my meals, make a list, and stick to it like my life depends on it.

No more wasting food or money.

Plus, shopping has become oddly therapeutic with this newfound strategy.

2. Mindless Clothes Hoarding

Remember when I used to buy clothes without even thinking about what I already had?

Yeah, me neither.

Well, not anymore at least.

My closet used to be a graveyard of impulse buys and never-worn items.

But now?

I’ve embraced the capsule wardrobe life.

I decluttered like a pro, kept only the essentials, and now every piece of clothing I own is there for a reason.

Talk about a wardrobe glow-up!

3. Obsessive Shoe Shopping Spree

Ah, shoes.

My old weakness.

I used to hoard them like there was no tomorrow, regardless of whether I’d actually wear them or not.

But now?

Quality over quantity, baby.

I’ve learned my lesson.

No more flimsy $8 shoes that fall apart after one wear.

Now, I invest in shoes that I love and that actually last.

My feet have never been happier, and neither has my wallet.

4. Money > Experiences Mentality

Growing up, I was taught that physical things were more valuable than experiences.

But boy, was that a mistake.

Once I discovered the joy of traveling and making memories, there was no going back.

Now, I prioritize experiences over material possessions any day.

5. Impulse Buying Frenzy

Gone are the days of walking into a store and buying something on a whim.

Nope, not anymore.

These days, I do my research like it’s my job.

I read reviews, compare prices, and weigh my options before making any purchase.

It might take a bit more time, but trust me, it’s worth it in the long run.

6. Shopping as Entertainment

Shopping used to be my go-to activity for a good time.

But now?

Meh, not so much.

I’ve traded in mindless browsing for meaningful experiences.

Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, or simply enjoying some me-time, there are plenty of ways to have fun that don’t involve maxing out my credit card.

7. Putting Money Before Time

I used to be all about that hustle life, working multiple jobs just to make a few extra bucks.

But you know what I realized?

Time is way more valuable than money.

So, I ditched the extra gigs and reclaimed my weekends.

And let me tell you, it’s been life-changing.

8. Spending Without Intention

Last but not least, let’s talk about intentional spending.

Or rather, the lack thereof in my past life.

I used to throw money at anything and everything without a second thought.

But now?

Every dollar has a purpose.

Whether it’s paying off debt, saving for the future, or treating myself to something that truly adds value to my life, my money is put to good use.
