There was a time when I writing articles like a well-oiled machine, basking in the glow of high engagement and decent earnings.
But then life happened, as it often does, and my once-consistent writing routine fell by the wayside.
I Stopped Writing Consistently on Medium and Saw My Numbers Plummet
Let’s rewind to December – ah, the golden days. I was on fire.
My keyboard was my best friend, and my mind was a treasure trove of ideas.
My Medium numbers were soaring, and I felt like I had cracked the code to success. It was exhilarating, to say the least.
But little did I know that the peak was just the calm before the storm.
January rolled around, and I was still riding the wave of my previous successes.
Sure, I wasn’t as active as I was in December, but hey, I was still doing okay.
My numbers held steady, and I was content.
But then came February – a month that would change everything.
I don’t know what happened exactly.
Maybe it was the winter blues, or perhaps I just got lazy
Whatever the reason, I completely stopped writing.
And guess what?
My Medium numbers took a nosedive.
It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Every time I logged into my account, I winced at the sight of those dismal stats.
But here’s the kicker: despite my plummeting numbers, I was still making some money.
Not a lot, mind you, but enough to make me sit up and take notice.
It got me thinking: can you really make passive income with Medium?
The short answer? Yes, but with a caveat.
Allow me to explain.
Medium operates on a partner program that allows writers to earn money based on the engagement their articles receive.
The more people read, clap, and engage with your content, the more money you stand to make.
It’s a simple enough concept, but the execution requires dedication and consistency.
During my heyday, I was living proof that consistency pays off.
I was churning out articles like nobody’s business, and my efforts were handsomely rewarded.
But as soon as I let up on the gas pedal, my earnings took a hit. It was a harsh lesson in the importance of staying committed to your craft.
That being said, even in my state of semi-retirement, I was still earning a modest income from Medium.
It wasn’t enough to retire on, but it was a nice little bonus considering I wasn’t putting in much effort.
So, to answer the question of whether you can make passive income with Medium: yes, you can.
But – and it’s a big but – you have to put in the work upfront.
If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and churn out quality content on a regular basis, the potential for earnings is there.
But if you’re like me and tend to slack off from time to time, don’t expect to see your bank account overflowing with cash.
So, what’s the moral of the story?
Consistency is key.
If you want to succeed on Medium – or any platform, for that matter – you have to show up day in and day out.
It’s not always glamorous, and there will be days when you’d rather binge-watch Netflix than write another word.
But if you stick with it, the rewards can be oh-so sweet.
As for me, well, I’ve learned my lesson.
I may have stumbled along the way, but I’m ready to dust myself off and get back in the game.
Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll look back on February as nothing more than a minor blip on my journey to Medium stardom.
Only time will tell.
But for now, I’ll leave you with this: if you’re thinking about dipping your toes into the world of Medium, go for it.
Just remember to bring your A-game – and don’t forget to hit that publish button.
